Porcelain Veneers
Process For Getting Porcelain Veneers
A dental veneer is a conservative treatment which means that the price is not too costly and the dental treatment does not consume most of the patient’s time. However, the patient may require visiting the dentist three times for diagnosing, preparing, and bonding the veneers onto the teeth but its a small price to pay to avoid fake teeth. During your first day of visit to the dental clinic, your dentist will get information from you regarding your expectations with the dental procedure. After gathering some information, your dentist will need to get an x-ray and impression of your teeth or tooth. Your teeth will need to be prepared for the procedure on your second visit.
A half millimeter amount of enamel will be removed from the tooth surface, which is the same amount of porcelain veneer that will be added onto the tooth. A local anesthesia will be administered to the area to prevent any pain or discomfort while removing the enamel. After removing a bit of enamel layer from your tooth, the impression will be sent to the laboratory to make the porcelain veneer. Since a small amount of the tooth surface was removed and the veneers will be available for a week or two, temporary veneers can be used but will be an additional cost to the patient.
On you third visit, your dentist will make sure that the permanent porcelain veneers will fit just right onto your tooth. The dentist will place them on your tooth and remove them if there is a need for an adjustment. Your dentist will also examine if the veneers have the exact same color with the rest of your natural teeth. Your tooth should be clean and well polished before placing the porcelain veneer. After bonding the veneers, a special light will be used to harden the adhesive material. If there is excess cement material that is visible, it will be removed.
The last step is to check how you bite with the veneers on. You might be advised to visit the dental clinic after a few days or if some problems arise such as gum irritation and severe eating discomfort. Since the dental procedure cannot be reversed after it is placed, taking care of your veneers is a must. When veneers get damaged, these cannot be repaired. That is why if the veneer is chipped for instance, the dentist will need to restart the entire procedure. It will also be helpful veneer wearers to avoid eating hard foods or putting too much stress on the teeth as this may lead to chipped or damaged veneers that may be hard to fix.
